The Deal
Get a front-row seat to witness some of Washington's most magnificent creatures with an orca whale-watching tour around the San Juan Islands and often the B.C. Gulf Islands. For $44 a person, take off for a six- to seven-hour trip with Island Mariner Cruises as you search for orcas, gray whales, puffins, Minke whales, peregrine falcons and more, regularly $87 a person.
Island Mariner trips depart from Bellingham at 10 a.m. and return around 4:30 p.m. and often utilize a seaplane, which serves as a spotter to direct the boat to the best viewing spots. On-board naturalists provide details about the marine mammals, birds, botany, geology and history of the Native Americans and islands. Take advantage of the complimentary binoculars to search the seas for orcas, harbor and elephant seals, tufted puffins, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, sea lions and possibly humpback whales.
