Built around 1900, Nunsmere Hall Hotel once hosted parties and social events for the well-to-do of Edwardian England. It has now been sympathetically restored, and holds four AA Red Stars and two Rosettes. The hotel sits within landscaped gardens and is surrounded by a 60-acre lake in the Cheshire countryside.
Delamere Forest, complete with walking and cycling trails and Go Ape Tree Top Adventure, is approximately 10 minutes' drive away. Oulton Park Circuit, a motor racing track, is also around 10 minutes away by car. Peckforton Castle, a Grade I medieval-style castle set in 4000 acres of forest, is around 20 minutes' drive away and Chester Zoo, a zoological garden with over 20,000 animals and 500 different species, is 30 minutes' away.
"Dining in the Crystal Restaurant is a highlight", according to The AA. The restaurant serves classical French and modern British cuisine. Have an apéritif in the Captain's Bar -- named after the original owner of Nunsmere Hall, Sir Aubrey Brocklebank -- or have a light lunch, an afternoon treat or an informal supper.
Set within a grand Victorian mansion, the hotel has 28 bedrooms and eight suites in total. Most Executive rooms are south facing and have views of the garden and lake. There are lots of facilities at the hotel including air rifle shooting, archery, laser clay pigeon shooting and Segways. For nature lovers there's a nature trail walk, hawk walks and falconry.
