"The Seven is probably the silliest hotel to have opened in Paris in years", says Condé Nast Traveller. But that was surely meant as a compliment considering it made the magazine's Hot List a year after it opened in 2010. One thing's for sure, the futuristic design and decadent suites make a stay here a unique experience.
It's in the trendy Latin Quarter, close to Notre Dame, the Paris Observatory, and the Luxembourg Gardens. Paris's oldest street -- the lively Rue Mouffetard -- is a 5-minute walk away and the famous Catacombs are 20 minutes away on foot. Censier-Daubenton Metro Station is five minutes.
The space-age design stretches from the lobby through to the bar, with high-backed velvet chairs, a wall of mirrors, and silver orbs hanging from the ceiling. It's an atmospheric spot in which to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail, and there's an adjoining patio outside. Breakfast, which is served in a vaulted cellar that doubles up as a wine bar, can also be delivered to your room for no extra cost.
There are 35 individually designed rooms, including seven suites. Standard rooms are on the small side, but the levitating beds and baths do seem to save space. All come with Nespresso machines, air-conditioning, iPod docks and safes; there aren't any doors on the bathrooms (although there is a separate toilet), which may not suit all travellers.
Upgrade to one of the suites for a special occasion. The Suite Charlotte (or Marie Antoinette Suite) has pink chiffon around the bed, and a wraparound diamante studded sofa. The 007 suite (or Suite Agent Secret) has the whole catalogue of Bond films that you can watch on the room's giant screen. Wi-Fi is free throughout and laptops can be borrowed on request.
