Opened in November 2015, The Lodge at Flying Horse ups the ante for luxury resorts in Colorado Springs. Featuring what the lodge calls a "Rocky Mountain Tuscan" style, the lodge is more of a boutique hotel, with only 48 villas and rooms, yet is set on a larger property with a country club and all the amenities of a large resort.
Luxurious guest rooms cover 580 square feet and have either a private patio or balcony with outdoor furniture and views of the Rocky Mountains or the golf course. They're decked out with modern furnishings, neutral-colored decor, large flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, large showers with rain showerheads and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms feature marble countertops and plush robes.
Guests can take advantage of the Club's full spa as well as the athletic club, which not only offers the usual facilities with cardio and weight training equipment, but also a heated lap pool, yoga and Pilates studios, and group workout classes. There are also indoor basketball and volleyball courts, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a juice bar and grill, and an outdoor pool, hot tub and splash pool for children. Golfers can spend the day at the club's 18-hole course.
For dining, various options include the Tack Room, which offers laid-back dining, open for breakfast and lunch for guests. The Steakhouse offers happy hour and dinner for guests with a menu of steaks and seafood in a more upscale setting. There's also an extensive Sunday brunch menu with mimosa and bloody marys.
The Lodge is a bit on the outskirts of town -- about a 25-minute drive to downtown Colorado Springs -- where guests can find plenty of shopping and dining options. The Garden of the Gods Visitor Center and rock formations are also under a half-hour drive.
