Comprising two boldly renovated Victorian homes, Gilded is a boutique Newport hotel with "the right balance between old-fashioned charm and modern comfort" (The New York Times). A playful escape from the city's Old World mansions and nautical culture, Gilded pays homage to its opulent namesake era with decadent interiors of rich jewel tones, gold accents and lacquered surfaces.
Equally daring in decor, guest rooms transport guests to the Golden Age without sacrificing the conveniences of the modern traveler. Custom-made padded headboards, ornate light fixtures and vivid wallpaper and artwork are complemented with all the necessities: Wi-Fi, an LED Smart TV, iPad with location information and—perhaps, the most essential—wine glasses and a cork screw.
While there are no on-site restaurants, Gilded serves a complimentary daily breakfast of curated small plates with flavors that are anything but. In addition to fresh fruit and juices, tea and coffee, the ever-changing menu has offered arugula, goat cheese and prosciutto breakfast pizza, open-faced pulled pork egg sandwiches and Caprese baked eggs.
Guests can take advantage of the billiards room, complete with a black velvet and white lacquer pool table, or relax in the private courtyard with a croquet practice court. In the late afternoon, bring your favorite spirits to "G and Tea," where the hotel supplies mixers and modifiers inspired from the Gilded Age.
Newport's attractions are easily accessible from the hotel. Thames Street and the Cliff Walk are less than a mile away, and the iconic mansions are all within a 10-minute drive.
