Philanthropy is not typically the first thing that comes to mind when choosing a hotel, however, the Alfond Inn lets guests do good without even trying. The hotel was built in 2013 with partial funding from Rollins College and a multi-million dollar private donation. All net revenue from the hotel goes toward scholarships.
The hotel is just a block from the the Rollins campus, and the exterior’s Mediterranean influence echoes that of the campus buildings. The property is intended to appeal to both “town and gown” -- and serve as a meeting place for both students and area residents alike.
The Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art has over 100 pieces of its works displayed here, scattered throughout the property, and the hotel often hosts events for the community such as Jazz Under the Stars, of which proceeds also go towards scholarships.
A buzzy hotel restaurant and lounge features locally sourced ingredients and Floridian fare with a modern twist. An indoor ballroom is often home to weddings and other celebratory occasions. The lobby features cool taupe and brown tones and light tiles flooring. Passageways are partially filled with scrolling iron work forming an arch and floor-to-ceiling paned windows and a rotunda with an overhead skylight flood the lobby with natural light.
Rooms hew to the same soft contemporary aesthetic of dark brown woods and teal and lime green striped accents. Add in the rooftop pool and well-equipped workout room, and it's no surprise the Alfond Inn is a Four Diamond AAA Award-winner in 2014 and 2015.
