Located between Morpeth and Alnwick, the impressive Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club was built by merchant and banker Charles William Bigge in 1812. The property is set in 450 acres of private grounds and parkland with "uplifting views of the Cheviot Hills and wild Northumberland landscapes", according to The AA.
Walkers will have plenty of options for a ramble, with Northumberland National Park and coastal strolls at Seahouses both around a 30-minute drive away. Other local attractions include Alnwick Castle (a 20-minute drive away), Bamburgh Castle (40 minutes by car) and the shops and nightlife of Newcastle city centre, which are a 35-minute drive away.
You won't be short of options for your free time, with an 18-hole championship golf course, a driving range and a full complement of spa and fitness facilities on site. The extensive health club has a gym, a 12-metre indoor heated pool, a sauna and a Jacuzzi.
When it comes to dinner, you'll be equally spoilt for choice, with the 2-AA-Rosette Dobson Restaurant providing a fine-dining experience, or the option to eat in the more informal Linden Tree pub. The AA Restaurant Guide 2015 calls the upscale Dobson Restaurant a "plush venue" that "makes a suitably refined setting for well-conceived dishes based on carefully-sourced raw materials" topped off with "relaxed, professional service".
The AA says "good-sized bedrooms have a modern style". Inside you'll find traditional décor with digital TVs, and free Wi-Fi, tea, coffee and mineral water. Upgrade to a spacious Executive or Feature Room to get free fruit and chocolate, luxe toiletries, a fluffy bathrobe and slippers and countryside views.
There are select dog-friendly rooms available for an extra £10 per night. Please request on booking.
