More Room Types

Located at the base of Machu Picchu and along the Vilcanota River, the Sumaq Machu Picchu hotel is the perfect place for adventure seekers and luxury travelers. The Quechua word sumaq means “beautiful and pleasant,” and that is the theme at the only 4-star resort in Agua Calientes. Conde Nast Traveler named in one of the Top 25 Hotels in South America in the 2015 Readers' Choice Awards.

Sumaq’s superb service starts upon arrival at the train station, where a porter takes your bags and escorts you on a 10-minute walk to the hotel. While you wait to check in, sip a pisco sour at the Suqay café bar and enjoy the views, or stop by Qunuq Restaurant for a delicious locally sourced meal.

The hotel mixes old and new with Incan-inspired architecture and Andean motifs throughout the lobby and rooms. Rooms feature wood beams and high ceilings with comfortable beds, hypo-allergenic pillows and views of either the mountains or river. Sumaq Machu Picchu sticks to its eco-friendly vow by only having air conditioning in common areas, so plan visits around milder times of the year for the best sleeping weather.

Guests can immerse themselves in the local culture with a plethora of activities, including a Peruvian cooking and cocktail-making class, Andean marriage ceremony, the Honor the Earth ritual and mini-chef cooking classes for kids. If you plan to hike Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, treat yourself at the full-service Aqlla Spa, complete with sauna, hydrotherapy Jacuzzi and Andean stone massages.
