More Room Types

Cathedral Quarter claimed to be Derby's first boutique hotel when it opened in 2008, but the history of the building stretches back much further. The Grade II-listed property was built in the late 19th century and served as the council's headquarters and a police station.

It's an attractive building, filled with original features -- from the Victorian mosaic floor in the lobby to the stained-glass windows and grand staircase leading to the Opulence Restaurant dining room. The Queen visited the restaurant for lunch in 2010.

The hotel is located next to the cathedral. Further afield, the Peak District National Park is a 30-minute drive, and National Trust property Chatsworth House is less than an hour by car. On your doorstep, the surrounding Cathedral Quarter area is good for shopping, eating out and culture, with the Derby QUAD arts centre a 5-minute walk away.

On site, the restaurant serves modern British fare. The adjoining Bar Sixteen has a good cocktail list, and afternoon tea is served Tuesday-Sunday.

The bedrooms vary in size, as is common with heritage buildings. Free Wi-Fi, mineral water, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a laptop safe are always included. The two split-level suites have a separate living room and mezzanine bedroom. One has a sofa bed, making it ideal for families or groups.

Please note: the Clink Beauty Rooms (a nod to the property's past) are currently closed.
