Cruise lovers and convenience fanatics alike can agree that the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel hits the mark. The bright and cheery hotel is located right on the Old San Juan waterfront just steps from the cruise ship terminals.
Proximity aside, the hotel also benefits from a location in the historic part of Old San Juan. It's just a short walk along cobblestone streets to the various open-air markets and eateries of the area.
Spend the day exploring historic sights like the 18th century Spanish-built fortress Castillo de San Cristobal, a seven-minute walk from the hotel. Meander through the steep and narrow streets, and take a rest stop at the Plaza San Jose. A 12-minute walk from the hotel, this is one of the highest vantage points in the old city, and the square is a popular spot for people-watching.
After a day on your feet, head back to the hotel for a drink or bite at the outdoor terrace restaurant Palio, where you can dine on Puerto Rican fusion cuisine while looking out at the water and the lights of the cruise ships. Or relax by the outdoor rooftop pool, one of the largest in the area.
In keeping with the spirit of the area, the hotel design has Spanish Colonial influences with arched doorways both outside and inside the first floor, checkered marble floors in the lobby and a grand two-sided staircase. Surprisingly, the rooms diverge from this aesthetic and are more corporate contemporary with wavy patterns on the carpeting, floating paneled headboards and dark wood furniture.
