In recent years, Portland has topped lists as one of the best American cities to visit thanks to its vibrant foodie scene and cutting-edge craft breweries. And paralleling this movement is the Hotel Eastlund, a 4-star boutique hotel that opened in 2015, following a $15-million renovation.
Located east of downtown Portland in the fast-growing Lloyd District, the Hotel Eastlund sparkles by mixing modern decor with 1960s-themed original artwork and swanky furniture. Upscale guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, and many overlook Portland's skyline. Stretch out in a raised California king bed adorned with a faux fur throw. The walk-in showers are California king-sized as well.
There are two restaurants on the property, both owned by renowned chef David Machado. The rooftop Altabira Tavern boasts sweeping city views and an expansive rooftop deck with lounge furniture and fire pits -- the perfect spot for a drink on warm days and cool nights. The restaurant keeps 16 local craft beers on tap, giving guests a taste of Portland's finest, and hotel insiders recommend the mussels and artisan pizzas.
Guests can grab breakfast at Citizen Baker, located on the lobby level and serving freshly made pastries and Ristretto Roasters coffee, a local Portland favorite. Lunch with wine and beer are also served in the early afternoon.
Portland is a very walkable city, so stroll along the footpath in the city's reliably cloudy weather. The MAX Light Rail is located across the street, making Hotel Eastlund an ideal jumping-off point to explore the city and neighboring area.
