The 4-star Dorint Hotel Dresden is well placed for exploring a city described as “a Baroque masterpiece” by The Daily Telegraph. Despite the city being heavily bombed during World War II, many of the iconic buildings in Dresden’s historic centre have been rebuilt. The most famous of these is the Baroque Frauenkirche church, which was reconstructed over 60 years, reopening in 2006. It’s well worth a visit and is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
The impressive Grünes Gewölbe, home to August the Strong’s treasures, is a pleasant 20-minute walk along the River Elbe. For those looking to shop, the 18th-century new town (on the opposite side of the river) and its pretty boutiques, galleries and upmarket restaurants, can be easily reached by tram, which stops right outside the hotel. Or, there are bicycles available to rent at the hotel.
The property has a small indoor swimming pool and sauna, plus a hot tub and a fitness room. Massages can also be organised (extra charges apply). In the morning, a varied breakfast buffet is served in Die Galerie. Later on, Die Bruecke restaurant serves a range of international and regional dishes. There’s also the on-site Alt Dresden pub, and a lobby bar.
Wi-Fi is free throughout and there’s a terminal in the lobby, which guests are welcome to use. The bedrooms are spacious, with red and white décor, and showers over the bath in the bathrooms. There is no air conditioning but the windows do open and room service is available 24 hours a day. Comfort rooms also benefit from tea- and coffee-making facilities, and there are safes in the junior suites.
