A preppy, country club alternative to the glitzy, high-energy hotel towers of Atlantic City, the Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club sits just 20 minutes north of the buzzing casino town along the Jersey Shore.
Originally built in 1914 as a country club and renovated in 2011, the low-rise property is surrounded by 670 acres of landscaped grounds. There’s an Elizabeth Arden Spa, three outdoor tennis courts and both indoor and outdoor (June-August) pools.
As you would expect at a former country club, golf is a big deal here. There are two 18-hole golf courses on site: one hugs the waters of Reeds Bay and the other meanders through the scenic pinelands.
The rooms are traditional but not too frilly. Furniture is antique, beds are topped with fluffy white duvets and the Wi-Fi is included. Upgrade to a suite for more space and a separate sitting room.
The on-site Grille Room is a rustic place that does hearty American food. Don’t miss the hotel’s popular Sunday Champagne brunch, where the buffet options include made-to-order omelets, a carving station and fresh seafood (11am - 2 pm).
Pack your beach gear; the hotel is a good home base from which to explore charming area beach towns, such as Stone Harbor and Long Beach Island (40-50 minutes away). Other local attractions include Renault Winery and Sylvin Farms Winery, both within 20 minutes from the hotel.
There’s a $10 resort fee per room, per night, which covers tea and coffee, Wi-Fi and unlimited use of the golf club storage.
