The Lambert Arms is an 18th-century coaching inn in the village of Aston Rowant near the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Natural Beauty on the borders of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The inn has 4 AA Gold Stars, which are awarded to properties offering excellent levels of quality, hospitality and service. It also has an AA Rosette and a Breakfast award.
We visited The Lambert Arms and loved the homely atmosphere, with wooden floors, leather armchairs and decorative rugs. It's cosy in the winter thanks to its open fireplaces and also great on a hot summer's day out in the courtyard. The restaurant serves British à la carte dishes, and snacks and afternoon tea are available from the bar.
The Double Inn Rooms are in the main building, and Courtyard Rooms are in the Courtyard Wing. All rooms have free Wi-Fi and Freeview.
Oxford, The Roald Dahl Museum, Blenheim Palace (Sir Winston Churchill's birthplace) and Waddesdon Manor are within a 40-minute drive. Other area highlights include outlet shopping centre Bicester Village, Vale Brewery and the market town of Thame, which is a 12-minute drive from The Lambert Arms. The Oxfordshire County & Thame Show takes place on 17 September, and features horse show jumping, chariot racing, falconry displays and a food theatre with tastings of local produce.
Travelzoo tip: Rather than driving into Oxford and paying city parking fees, catch the Oxford Tube bus from Lewknor, which is a 15-minute walk from The Lambert Arms.
