Built in 1816, Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa is a rural retreat set in 38 acres of Cheshire countryside. Bordered by the River Weaver, the property is within easy reach of Chester, Manchester and the medieval town of Nantwich. It has been awarded four Red Stars by the AA, and was where David Beckham proposed to Victoria in 1998.
This Georgian property has an oak-panelled bar overlooking the fountain and gardens, and an elegant 2-AA-Rosette restaurant. Expect seasonal specialties, such as hand-dived scallops, Cornish lamb, and sticky toffee pudding soufflé. The Drawing Room serves afternoon tea and evening cocktails.
The bedrooms are spread across the newer West Wing (added in 1990) and the Old Hall Main House, dating from 1864. All have complimentary water, waffle robes, iPod docks, free movies and free Wi-Fi. Upgrade to an Executive Room for more space, a super-king-size bed and a TV at the foot of the bath. Rooms with garden views are available on request.
The spa is located in the original stable block and won the residential spa gong at the Professional Beauty Awards 2013, as well as receiving a 5-bubble rating from The Good Spa Guide. The Independent describes it as a "spa gem in Cheshire's crown" and included it in its 50 Best Spas feature in 2012.
Guests get free access to the steam room, glass-roofed swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and classes at the health club. A full range of pampering spa treatments are also available (supplements apply).
