Positioned right on cobblestone River Street, the AAA 4-Diamond Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront is "beautiful, mysterious and playful" says Forbes Travel Guide. The weathered brick warehouse-style building fits in well with its wharf setting, in the heart of the main historic area. Owens-Thomas House and Museum is a 10-minute walk away, and the hotel is only three blocks from the lively City Market and its boutiques, casual eateries and art galleries.
The hotel’s biggest draw is Rocks on the Roof, the only rooftop bar in the city. Start the party at the indoor bar with cocktails and tapas -- there’s live music starting at 9pm (Thursday-Saturday) -- or spend the evening snuggled up by the fire pit admiring the river from the terrace. Down below at Rocks on the River, you can fill up on Southern-style comfort food, such as jumbo-lump crab cakes and shrimp with grits. There’s a kid-friendly menu, and children under 10 eat for free all day on Tuesdays.
There is a small fitness room on site, but you’ll have to head over to the sister hotel, Mansion on Forsyth Park, to use the full-service spa and outdoor pool (there's a free shuttle service between the two hotels). Alternatively, take a jog down the river to Emmet Park or head down to Forsyth Park in the Historic District.
Room interiors are dramatic, swathed in velvet with sailor chests for bedside tables and chandeliers encrusted with oyster shells. The best views are over the river and a few rooms have small balconies. Opt for a room away from the rooftop bar if you want a quieter night.
