More Room Types

Described by Wallpaper* as “an unlikely hotel experience”, Sir Albert Hotel Amsterdam may be housed in a former diamond factory and one of the city’s newer hotels, but clever touches make it feel more like an aristocrat’s townhouse.

The canal-side property used to be a diamond factory and is situated in the hip Oude Pijp neighbourhood (nicknamed Amsterdam’s Latin Quarter). The old Heineken brewery is nearby, and there are numerous restaurants, cafes and bars to explore. Around the corner is Albert Cuypmarkt, the largest street market in the country, and the Rijksmuseum is a 10-minute walk.

The minimalist Japanese restaurant Izakaya is run by former Nobu chef Hariprasad Shetty, who conjures up sashimi, small plates served in a hot hibachi charcoal bowl and wasabi lobster cooked on the robata open grill. There’s also a good range of shochu cocktails to try and a street-side terrace overlooking the canal.

Rooms are darkly handsome, with sharp black furniture, contrasting crisp white bed linen and beautiful Persian carpets. High ceilings and large windows make the most of the light and all come with rainforest showers. Suites are larger and also have Philippe Starck bathtubs.

Most impressive of all are the exclusive Residences, which come with a spacious living room, two bathrooms and a swanky private bar stocked with free drinks.

From the press:
  • "If Sir Albert were a real-life gent, he'd wear a dapper three-piece suit and sport a distinguished moustache" -- Condé Nast Traveller
  • "When the Sir Albert Hotel opened... it cemented De Pijp as Amsterdam’s coolest neighbourhood… [the restaurant] is the best in town" – Stylist
