Set in acres of gardens and with views of the Snowdonia Mountains, Tre-Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel & Spa has won praise for its lovely gardens and "breathtaking" (The Daily Telegraph) setting on the Welsh island of Anglesey. The hotel has held a VisitWales Gold Award for the past four years and has hosted famous guests including Demi Moore, Sir David Attenborough and Alicia Keys.
The Gothic-style building has a traditional finish, with high ceilings and chandeliers. Some of the bedrooms overlook the grounds; others overlook the mountains and courtyard.
The real showstoppers here are the fine-dining Noëlle's Restaurant and the spa, set in the hotel's converted Victorian stables. Noëlle's won the Anglesey Tourism Award for Best Restaurant of the Year 2015 and serves a 5-course table d'hote dinner, with dishes such as duck confit terrine, seared fillet of Welsh black beef, and garlic- and sage-roasted eggplant with tomato and balsamic oil. For more relaxed fare, the Clock Tower is also well reviewed and serves food throughout the day.
Guests get full access to the spa, which was praised by the Daily Mail for its facilities and ambience, which it says "easily rival those of any opulent London spa". Highlights include the Thermal Suite, with an experience shower, an ice fountain and salt-inhalation therapy room, an indoor pool and well-equipped gym with exercise classes (charges apply). Advance booking is advised for treatments.
