The 4-star Haven Hotel is at the tip of the exclusive Sandbanks peninsula, overlooking the Blue Flag beach as well as Poole Harbour. The ‘Bramble Bush Bay’ chain ferry docks is directly in front of the hotel, and goes to Shell Bay on the Isle of Purbeck, while the Poole ferry terminal is just a 15-minute drive, and offers connections to the Channel Islands.
The hotel has plenty to do on site, with facilities including an 18-metre outdoor pool, indoor hydrotherapy pools, a sauna, a steam room, a gym and outdoor tennis courts. Spa treatments using seaweed-based products are also available at an extra cost.
La Roche Restaurant has two AA Rosettes and views of Old Harry Rocks, two chalk sea stacks which mark the most easterly point of the Jurassic Coast -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The head chef prides himself on using locally sourced ingredients and the extensive wine list is hand-picked by the hotel’s wine expert. There’s live music on Fridays and Saturdays in the restaurant and Pavilion Bar.
All rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi and upgraded rooms have sea views and a balcony. Family rooms have a double bed with either a single bed or an adjoining bunk bed room.
The Jurassic Coast is a walker’s playground. It stretches for 95 miles uncovering 185 million years of history, spanning the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Alternatively, get out on the water with The Watersports Academy in Poole, which offers activities including sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding and powerboating. Brownsea Island, famous for wildlife including red squirrels, also makes a pleasant day trip.
