Set on Victoria’s Inner Harbour, the Hotel Grand Pacific was named on Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Hotels list in 2012 and has been recommended by National Geographic Traveler for families visiting Vancouver Island. Free bike rental, balconies in every room, a vast sports club, and stunning views make this property great value.
Mark Restaurant has been described as "one of the city’s finest" by Frommer’s. Try the chilled summer pea bisque, seared Albacore tuna and raspberry rubbed oven-roasted venison. There are also the Pacific Restaurant & Terrace for more casual fare (and dim sum on the weekends), and the Pacific Lounge for evening cocktails and jazz. Don’t miss the afternoon tea, with an Asian twist, and the Sunday Breakfast cocktail (made with bourbon with maple syrup-infused Silk Road tea and basil).
The rooms are spacious and surprisingly quiet (considering the hotel’s location), and all have balconies that are big enough to relax on. Expect views of the city, gardens, harbour or Olympic Mountains from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Children are especially welcome, with gift bags on arrival, Nintendo consoles and board games provided. Upgrade to the Olympic Suite for spectacular views of the mountains, a Jacuzzi tub by the fireplace and a four-poster bed.
On site, the Victoria Athletic Club is an impressive size and has an indoor pool, kids pool, full gym, squash courts and fitness classes. There is also a Thai-themed spa that has a dedicated tea bar. Guests can rent bikes for free for up to four hours, and Beacon Hill Park is nearby, with an ocean-side track that runs for miles. Downtown is a 15-minute walk and the Butchart Gardens and Royal BC Museum are also easily accessible. The Victoria Clipper departs from just across the harbor and is an easy day trip to Seattle.
