Dale Lodge Hotel is a "classy hotel with a brilliant pub", says Lancashire Life. This Georgian country-house hotel is situated in three acres of mature gardens in the village of Grasmere in the Lake District. Built in the 1820s, the property maintains many of its original features and is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle.
The village of Grasmere was home to William Wordsworth and the property is less than a 10-minute walk from the Wordsworth Trust, a living memorial set up to celebrate the poet's work. The famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop in set in Dove Cottage, the poet's former home, and is less than a 2-minute walk from the hotel.
You won't go hungry -- the hotel received a VisitEngland Gold Breakfast Award and you can choose between a candlelit dinner in the formal, yet cosy Lodge Restaurant or relax in the more laid-back Tweedies Bar. The Lodge Restaurant is in the main hotel and serves traditional dishes including fish and chips or more contemporary dishes such as pork done four ways with dauphinoise potatoes and braised red cabbage.
If you prefer a more relaxed pub environment then Tweedies Bar will be right up your street. It has an award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and has won praise from The Daily Telegraph for being "iconic", and serving "outstanding food". If you've had a long day rambling on the fells, prop up the bar with a pint of guest ale and tuck into a hearty meal of steak and kidney pudding.
Rooms are individually designed with a traditional décor and crisp white linens. All rooms are en-suite with luxury Molton Brown products and fluffy white bath robes. Facilities include free WiFi and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Upgrade to a larger Premier or Luxury Mews Room if travelling with children.
