"Easily the city's most stylish hotel," raves Lonely Planet, The Moonrise Hotel is a AAA 4-Diamond property in the Delmar Loop, a hip neighborhood near Washington University. The hotel sits at the east end of Delmar Boulevard, known for its lively bars and clubs and the city’s Walk of Fame. Next door is The Pageant nightclub, an iconic live music venue, making the hotel popular with concert-goers.
Throughout the property there are moon-themed art and lunar memorabilia from owner Joe Edwards’s collection (Edwards is a local character celebrated for revitalizing the area -- his latest campaign is to reinstate The Loop trolley system). A florescent rainbow staircase leads up to the lively bar, where the menu covers a range of more than 40 beers and wines by the glass. There’s also a retro-styled restaurant for modern American dishes like ribeye steak and Sloppy Joes, and in the mornings the breakfast menu includes breakfast burritos, buttermilk pancakes and homemade granola.
The biggest draw, however, is undoubtedly the rooftop terrace (open 5pm-2am April-October), where cocktails and small plates are served beneath a spinning moon. For eco-friendly guests and as part of the hotel’s green initiative, there’s also a free charging station out front for electric cars.
Rooms are sleek and comfortable, with top-notch amenities such as Wolfgang Puck coffee, pillowtop mattresses and walk-in showers. The 10 individually themed suites have separate living rooms and dining space for four.
