Travel Tips for U.S. Thanksgiving

Analysts are reporting that this year, travel over U.S. Thanksgiving will be the most crowded it's been since 1944. Several major U.S. airlines will be flying at as much as 90% capacity.

Here are a few helpful tips to stay in high spirits over the holidays:

  • Make a list and check it twice -- create a packing checklist to ensure that you have everything you need for yourself, family traveling with you and any gifts
  • Better yet ... send presents ahead of time to avoid unnecessary extra baggage fees
  • Expect lineups and pack patience, especially with the new security screening procedures in place at several airports
  • Reconfirm all reservations ahead of time
  • Check in early: If you haven’t already pre-selected seats for everyone travelling in your party, it’s important to arrive at the airport extra early for any chance of being seated together when flights are near full capacity
  • Power up: Remember to pack essential cell phone chargers and/or backup batteries so that you can keep in touch in the event of a long wait or delayed flight.  Be sure to pack these in carry-on luggage versus checked luggage
  • Stock up: Avoid spending on pricey airport food by packing enough snacks (non liquids) to last in the event of a long layover or delayed flight
