Springtime Events in New York City

The temperatures will be rising, flowers will be blooming and the festivities will be plentiful. After a long, cold winter New Yorkers take advantage of every opportunity to celebrate spring.

Savvy travellers can save a ton by heading to the Big Apple March-May instead of the pricier summer season. Save even more by skipping the typical spring break weeks before and after Easter.

Here are some festivals to mark on your calendar:
  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade -- March 17: This event spans more than 40 blocks along Fifth Avenue and dates back to 1762. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and is led by members of the Fighting Irish Infantry. Just make sure to pack something green to wear so you don’t get a pinch.
  • Macy’s Flower Show -- March 27-April 10: Take in the sights and smells of hundreds of flowers in bloom plus, get a free 20-minute guided tour to learn how the show was installed and more about the plants featured. Tours are available every half hour between 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Macy's 35th and Broadway entrance.
  • Tribeca Film Festival -- April 20-May 1: Robert De Niro’s event is celebrating its 10th year running. This the perfect opportunity to rub elbows with some of the great minds in film and to explore Manhattan’s hip downtown scene. Ticket prices have yet to be announced but check back on March 7 when they go on sale.
  • Ninth Avenue International Food Festival -- May 14-15: Restaurant Week may be coming to a close, but foodies still have something to look forward to. This 20-block festival will feature food from around the world, including cuisine from Greece, Brazil, Italy, Morocco, Senegal, Ukraine, Thailand and more.
