Plan Ahead for Ski Season Savings

Summer tans haven’t yet faded and leaf-peeping season is just beginning, so winter snowfall may be far from travelers’ minds. But by planning ahead and scheduling a getaway to the slopes now, ski bums can score savings of more than 50%.

Here are some of our favorite mountain retreats, including dates over ski season:

  • Banff, Alberta: For $175 (regularly $348), take a two-night escape to The Juniper Hotel and receive a $30 dining credit. This deal is valid through Dec. 19, which includes early ski season (the slopes typically open in mid-November).
  • Crested Butte, Colo.: Spend two nights at the charming Inn at Crested Butte, Nov. 20 - Jan. 31, for US$269 (regularly US$498). This deal includes daily continental breakfast and an evening glass of wine.
  • Sundance, Utah: Escape to the 5,000-acre Sundance Resort, founded by Robert Redford and focused on eco-friendly practices and outdoor exploration. Stay for US$149 per night (regularly US$319), including breakfast, on select dates into April.
  • South Lake Tahoe, Calif.: Visit the Avalon Lodge for US$99 per night -- 50% off regular rates -- for weekday stays Nov. 26 - April 30. The package also includes breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking.
