Canadian Travellers Say Mishaps Are to be Expected

It should come as no surprise that the Travelzoo Canada office is populated by die-hard travel enthusiasts. Whether for business or pleasure –  or a little of both – there’s always someone jetting off somewhere. But as much as we love the adventure and excitement of travel, we also know to be prepared for something to potentially go wrong.  Seems many Canadians feel the same way. A recent survey of 1,006 Canadian adults by Capital One found that more than 1 in 4 Canadians (26%) expect to experience some form of travel mishap or inconvenience.

  • The most commonly cited mishaps include bad weather (59%), delays (48%), lost luggage (28%) and uncomfortable or dirty accommodations (38%).
  • When booking travel, the most frequent annoyances are finding a better deal after you’ve already booked (39%) and not being able to get the travel dates you want (36%).

Although many travel inconveniences are completely unavoidable – we can’t control the weather, for example – consider taking the following measures to reduce the chance for trouble:

  • Leave lots of extra time to get to the airport in case of traffic or line ups.
  • If possible, spread your belongings over a few bags in case one gets lost.
  • Do plenty of research before booking and learn as much as you can about your destination before leaving to avoid getting lost or running into language barriers.

Of course, one way to avoid travel hassles is to book an all-inclusive vacation. Most include airfare, airport transfers, accommodations, entertainment, food and drinks, so every last detail is planned for you.
