B&Bs thank Vets with Free Stays

As a way to thank them for their service, U.S. veterans are being offered free stays the evening before Veterans Day in America at many bed and breakfasts across the United States as well as Canada.

The idea of one West Virginia innkeeper in 2008 has turned into a growing charitable effort with nearly 400 small, independently owned properties participating this year in North America. Properties in two provinces and more than 40 states are providing complimentary rooms Nov. 10 to active and retired military personnel for at least one night as part of the B&Bs for Vets program.

Some of the inns involved are as small as six rooms, other have a few dozen. Participating B&Bs in British Columbia include River Run Cottages B&B in Ladner, Thistle Downs House in North Vancouver and Willow Beach B&B in West Kelowna. In Ontario, Black Lab Inn in Ottawa and Tucked Inn the Harbour B&B in Victoria Harbour are taking part.Valid identification is required with each reservation.
