Bermuda carves a thin curve through the Mid-Atlantic waters, its islands wrapped in fine pink sand and warmed by the Gulf Stream, which keeps the climate summery for months longer than most of North America. Scout Britain's oldest colony during a Royal Caribbean cruise priced as low as $50 per night, per person.

Launch from the New York City area for a seven-night roundtrip journey for US$349 per person on the Explorer of the Seas. One of the "most activity-rich passenger ships at sea" according to Frommer's, its decks boast an ice-skating rink, mini-golf course, climbing walls, shopping promenade and several grand dining rooms.

Sailings depart Oct. 20 or 27 -- when the weather "closely resembles summer" (USA Today) -- and include a bonus US$75 in on-board credit. This saves more than $150 per person on current rates. Peak summer sailings are also discounted, including a five-night July 6 departure for US$649 per person that saves up to $300 on current pricing.

The ship docks in Bermuda's King's Wharf for two to three days, depending on cruise length. Above sea level, the port leads to golf courses, hiking trails and the St. George colonial settlement. Below sea level, colorful schools of fish swarm around snorkelers, coral reefs and underwater ruins.

Note: Government taxes of approximately US$187 per person are additional. Rates will be quoted online and by phone in U.S. dollars.
