Travel Information About Cancun
Cancun has been among the top tourist destinations for sun travellers for decades – and with good reason. Home to 14 miles of white sand beaches, Cancun has everything tourists are looking for.
Cancun International Airport (CUN) is Mexico's second busiest airport. Most major air carriers in the Western hemisphere have service to Cancun. It is also a convenient jump-off point if trying to visit other cities in Mexico, such as Cozumel (CZM), Acapulco (ACA), Puerto Vallarta (PVR) or Mexico City (MEX). From Canada, there are several charter carriers that offer cheap flights to Cancun, especially during peak season from December to April.
Cancun has a warm, tropical temperature, with the hottest months being from April to September. The tropical storm season lasts from May to December, and humidity during this time averages close to 70% on rain free days.
Cancun is very easy to navigate. Buses are cheap, and most bus drivers speak enough English to understand non-Spanish speakers. If the bus isn't your style, there are many taxis, but that can be expensive if you are travelling to, or are in the hotel zone. Downtown has less expensive places to shop and even has many brands North Americans are aware of, such as Walmart, Sears, Costco, Blockbuster and Starbucks.
There are many activities to take advantage of when visiting Cancun. If you are a history buff, make sure to take a visit to Mayan archaeological sites, such as Chichen Itza and Tulum. If you are an eco-buff, a trip to Xcaret is necessary. This eco-archaeological park has underground rivers, beaches, butterfly pavilions and more. If you're just into staying active, there are jeep adventures, snorkeling, sailing, fishing or golfing.
Cheap flights to Mexico are available all year-round, especially from Canadian cities. Make sure to check back with Travelzoo when looking to book travel deals, flights to or cheap hotels in Mexico.
