Travel Information About Beijing

Beijing (formerly known as Peking) is the capital of the People's Republic of China. The 2008 Summer Olympics were hosted here, China's second largest city. With various tourist attractions, a long history and world-famous cuisine, Beijing has emerged as a popular destination.

Beijing has a climate characterized by hot, humid summers and generally cold, windy, dry winters. When trying to find travel deals to Beijing, it is important you keep the weather in mind, as many of Beijing's top tourist attractions are located far apart and are outside.

When getting to this destination, you will most likely fly in to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). Most domestic and nearly all international flights arrive at and depart from Capital Airport. With all of these routes serviced, flights to Beijing and travel deals departing from Beijing have been a lot easier to find. As a focal point of many international flights to China, airline tickets to Beijing can be found from many places worldwide.

If you choose to visit Beijing, there is so much to do. Take an evening and experience the Beijing opera, a combination of song, spoken dialogue and action sequences. If the theatre isn't your cup of tea, you can always travel around and visit some of its more famous landmarks, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall of China. After hosting the 2008 Summer Olympics, you can also visit the Bird's Nest Stadium or the "Water Cube," the Beijing National Aquatics Centre.

You will also have to experience the world-famous Mandarin Cuisine. The Peking Roast Duck is the most well-known dish. Teahouses are also very common in Beijing.

Beijing is the largest railway hub in China, which makes tickets to other cities in China very easy to find. When travelling around the city, the subway has nine lines and an extensive bus route map. Registered taxis are also widely available.
