Travelzoo tip: There's no single supplement -- so it's a great option for solo travellers looking to explore New Zealand. There's also an option to add on a sea-kayaking experience -- a fantastic opportunity to explore the region's remote coastline -- for $105 (NZ$110) for a full day, or $80 ($NZ85) for a half-day.
About the tour: This 6-day tour visits the east coast headlands and beaches of the North Island, the Bay of Islands, Whangaroa, Cape Reinga and the Kauri Forests.
Departing from Auckland, you’ll meet your tour guide and fellow travellers before heading along the scenic east coast to explore a glowworm cave on your way to an idyllic Northland beach for your first nights’ camping.
Day two is spent hiking through the native landscapes and enjoying the spectacular surrounds which include some stunning views of the Bay of Islands. You’ll spend the night in Tauranga Bay where you’ll enjoy dinner.
Day three is an opportunity to embark on a guided kayak trip visiting some of Whangaroa’s remote coastline. If you don’t fancy a kayak, there are some great hiking options available or you can spend the day relaxing at Tauranga Bay. In the evening you’ll enjoy dinner at Mangonui Wharf Fish Shop, which according to New Zealand.com "serves some of the best fish and chips you’ll find”. You’ll spend the night in a campsite in Matai Bay.
The following day you’ll have an opportunity to try your hand at sand boarding down Te Paki’s sand dunes as well as a hike to Cape Reinga, where you’ll spend the night. The final two days are spent exploring the secluded Cape Maria van Diemen and Kauri Forests before arriving back in Auckland, where the tour concludes. Click here for the full itinerary.
