Travelzoo tip: Mainland Greece is a history buff's dream -- be sure to brush up on your ancient Greek mythology to bring the tour to life.
About the tour: The tour begins in Athens where you’ll visit many of the city’s ancient highlights including the iconic Parthenon temple, the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch and the Panathenaic Stadium -- the site that hosted the first ‘modern’ Olympic Games in 1896. Leaving Athens, you'll cross the Corinth Canal on your way to Mycenae, one of the major centres of ancient Greek civilization.
You’ll visit the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, built around 330–320 BC and famous for “its extraordinary acoustics” (Rough Guides) before arriving in Olympia. The home to the historical site of Ancient Olympia includes the Temple of Zeus and the altar of the Olympic flame.
Your adventure continues north to Delphi for a trip to the museum and visit the Temples of Apollo and Athena before returning to Athens.
