One of the most coveted perks at Travelzoo is the Travelzoo Experience, in which Deal Experts and other employees take advantage of the same travel, entertainment and local deals we publish to our subscribers and report back on their experience.
Following our recent wedding, my wife and I were extremely excited to use my Travelzoo Experience and take a relaxing resort break in Bali. We took up a deal from My Bali published on Travelzoo which included return economy airfares, seven nights’ accommodation, daily buffet breakfast, VIP transfers and US$1,000 resort credit. The pictures showcasing the deal were absolutely amazing and we were not disappointed when we arrived at the resort.
Ayana Resort & Spa is situated in Jimbaran, which is to the south of Bali and famous for its fishing, seafood restaurants and luxury hotels and resorts. One of the unique package inclusions is a VIP concierge service which is a signature feature of My Bali deals. We were greeted as soon as we disembarked the aircraft and given priority access through immigration and customs with the help of our My Bali representative, Yogi. Before we knew it, we were sitting in our air-conditioned minivan with a bottle of water and a cold towel and making out way to the resort.
The resort grounds are expansive and beautifully manicured with traditional Balinese architecture and ornaments. Our Deluxe Ocean View Room was spacious and functional, with a balcony overlooking the miniature golf course and out to Sea. One of the highlights was the ocean pool, which is located down on the cliffs above the water. The infinity ocean pool uses fresh sea water which is pumped straight from the ocean before being treated. Another reason for this pool being our favourite was the limited capacity of just 10 cabanas, so it was quite intimate and a great place to read a book and listen to the crash of the waves below.
As with many resorts in Asia, the food options were comprehensive and breakfast was no exception, with a 4-day menu rotation, which meant we tasted a variety of Asian, local Balinese and Western delights. Dining options were also extensive and all reasonably priced, even by resort standards.
But perhaps the most memorable experience was our spa treatment at the multi award-winning Thermes Marins Bali. We opted for the last day package which is designed for guests on their final day at the resort. We were treated to two and a half hours of heaven, including a foot wash, body scrub, rose petal bath, Balinese massage, foot massage, then access to the steam room and sauna. This was the perfect way to end our holiday and prepare ourselves for the overnight flight back to Sydney.
